Alright. If you’re here then you’re either browsing (thanks), or you’ve got an LG Spectrum.
If you’ve got a LG Spectrum, and you’re looking into rooting it…
Use this. It says be on the ZV7 OTA, but I can confirm that it worked with the ZV9 OTA.
Follow the instructions on that page exactly as it has it. Deviate one bit and you might end up with bricks.
–You can stop here if you only want root–
Once you have root, bootloader unlocked (huzzah), and CWM 220.127.116.11…
Download the latest recovery here. AS OF WRITING, THIS IS 18.104.22.168. Or use the Rom Manager app to do this. Install the recovery you just downloaded.
–This gives you the latest recovery, which enables Kitkat flashing at this time–
Alright. Assuming you’ve followed these steps, now you should have:
Root access, including the SuperUser app. I don’t recommend going to SuperSU, that gave me issues.
CWM 22.214.171.124 (or whatever the newest one is).
–Stop here if you don’t want Kitkat. But then, if you do–
This will give you a couple of available CM downloads. As of writing, this is Kitkat. Go ahead and download a nightly, and remember to also download GApps.
Place the files on your SDCard.
Boot into ZV9.
Open Rom Manager.
Select Reboot into Recovery.
–STOP HERE AND BE SURE TO MAKE A NANDROID, AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT YOU’RE DOING. SERIOUSLY. IT’LL HELP–
Select install zip. Select your CM zip file. Flash it. Flash GAPPS. Reboot system.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES (UNLESS AS A LAST RESORT) SHOULD YOU USE THE VOLUME DOWN+POWER COMBO TO GET INTO CWM RECOVERY, BECAUSE THAT WILL END UP IN BOOTLOOPS INTO CWM. IF YOU DO HAVE TO USE THE VOLUME DOWN+POWER COMBO, FLASH THIS IN RECOVERY. THIS WILL CLEAR THE FLAGS SET FROM USING THAT COMBO.
I can’t comment on whether or not Xposed works with the KK builds, as my phone didn’t like it and I ended up finding the stuff here. You can feel free to try it though, and if it doesn’t work then you’ll know because you’ll be forced to use the Volume Down+Power combo. However, you’ll need to flash the Xposed Disabler and the Anti-Bootlooping thing (hypothetically. I was stupid and wiped everything, which meant I had to start from scratch. Please do this when you’re awake and actually paying attention).
Anything else? Feel free to leave a comment or Google up any issues you have. Assuming you went all the way, you can enable development mode by tapping a couple of things in the settings>About Device, and view a couple special animations included in there too. The stock CM calculator has a hidden Easter Egg – Use landscape view and slide all the way to the right.
Phandroid – All things root, probably updated enough: HERE
XDA’s is a bit scattered about, but you can find them with Google.
CM INFO HERE. The link for CM nightlies was broken, so the link was removed.
